It Used to Be an Ames: Lowe's in Waterford, Connecticut

It's time for another edition of "It Used to Be an Ames". This time we're going to look at a Lowe's at an unnamed plaza in Waterford, CT

INFO: According to The Caldor Rainbow's Ames Store Locator, this location was originally a Caldor, which was another New England discount chain of the past. That chain ceased operations in 1999, and Ames ceased their operations just a few years later in 2002. This means that this location most likely spent very little time as an Ames. As we all know, Ames closed all locations in 2002. This location sat abandoned until around 2005, when the space was demolished for Lowe's. This can be seen on an archive page of the Ames Fan Club (RIP). The pictures on this page show the sites demolition in June of 2005

PICTURES:

First, I'd like to show some pictures of this location when it was an abandoned Ames. Credit for all of these pictures goes to Ames Fan Club user Chris Fontaine. The first three pictures were taken on January 29th, 2004, and I'm unsure when the fourth picture was taken.

Pictures from 1-29-04

Picture from unknown date (most likely taken on 9-9-04)

Now I'm going to show you pictures of the Lowe's as of 5-31-20

To the right of the main entrance is where the Garden Center is. However, I did not get a good shot of it

The plaza also has other stores such as Game Stop, Dollar Tree, and Bob's Stores, a small clothing store chain not to be confused with Bob's Discount Furniture, a chain that people in the Waterford area are all too familiar with.

That's it for this blog! Next time we'll be exploring another plaza in Waterford, which has an abandoned Benny's. I'll see you all soon!
